Nov. 5, 2008- Update: The Dream Realized

What a Wonderful Day it is...

BARACK OBAMA IS PRESIDENT ELECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to shout it! I cried and screamed hooped and hollered, jumped ran and spoke- no shrilled- into the phone over and over again and damn near doubled over in disbelief. I thanked the Creator, I congragulated everyone on their VICTORY and silently thanked all those that went before me for this moment to take place... 44 years after the Civil Rights Movement was won the 44th President was named Barack Obama... 40 and 43 years after the assasinations of Dr. King and Brother Malcolm respectively the Dream was realized... 143 years after slavery was abolished and while African brought to America were still viewed as not human we elected an African-American to be our Commander in Chief!

Because of the strength and vision mistakes and mishaps of Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, JFK, RFK, LBJ, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, William Jefferson Clinton, George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush this day I can shout BARACK OBAMA IS PRESIDENT ELECT!!

Now I know that the celebrations won't end anytime soon; infact they have just began to be planned we-as Americans- are celebrating a coming of age of a country that is long over due. We as Americans cried for change and rallied for a new direction... We as American went from door to door, held meetings, voting registration drives, barbershop discussions ensued, and November 4th we let our voices be heard! 8 years ago after a long court battle Democracy had seem to lose it's way but November 4th 2008 democracy rang loud and free.

According to exit polls, Obama crushed McCain among women voters (56 percent to 43 percent); voters under 30 (66 percent to 32 percent); African-American voters (95 percent to 4 percent); Latino voters (66 percent to 32 percent); first-time voters (68 percent to 31 percent); and voters making less than $100,000 a year (55 percent to 43 percent). -(As found on CNN.com)

As President-Elect Obama thanked a crowd of over 100,000 tear stained faces beaming with pride and joy he spoke of the long road ahead. He is correct this is just the beginning; with a Democratic Presidency and a majority Democratic Congress (see link on Senate Race below) the United States of America has said enough with the current road in which the country is on and gave a clear and concise mandate of change and prosperity. But it is not just the elected officials that have work to do... We the People have had it proven to us that apathy in regards to the politics that shape our everyday life is NO LONGER ACCEPTED!!! No longer can you say my vote won't count, my voice won't be heard... NO LONGER will it be acceptable to stand idlely by as the legislators make descisions... We can be heard... "Yes We Can" "Yes We Did" and "Yes We Will"

Senator McCain gave one of the most gracious, inspiring and respectful concession speeches I have had the pleasure of hearing...

McCain urged his supporters to "join me in not just congratulating [Obama], but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited." -(As found on CNN.com)

This is not the end it is the end of the beginning...
